چکیده

Although a significant international progress has been made in the recent years, the validation of coarse resolution satellite products is still limited by the small number of available sites. Calibration of ground measurements to large areas would be a suitable complement to direct validation activities. In this study, a multi-step “bottom-up” scaling approach from local fieldlevel measurement to global comparison with satellite of biophysical variables such as fractional vegetation cover (FVC) has been developed. The study presents the different results of its application on satellite data over Europe in two different years. It exploits the unprecedented potential offered by the MERIS/ENVISAT sensor, which provides fine resolution optical data at two different spatial resolutions with a revisit time of approximately three days. Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) combined with reduced major axis (RMA) regression are used to link field-measured data and satellite data, providing unbiased estimates of FVC.

Performance of Fapar Operational Products Derived from Meris at the Full and Reduced Resolutions

This paper discusses the validation of the operational Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) land product which corresponds to the biophysical variable of the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR). The FAPAR value is currently and automatically estimated from MERIS data at reduced resolution and it can be computed using the full resolution using the same phys...

Validation of the Operational Meris Fapar Products

This paper discusses the validation of the operational Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) land product which corresponds to the biophysical variable of the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR). The FAPAR value acts as an indicator of the presence and state of the vegetation and it is currently estimated from MERIS data at both reduced and full resolution ...

Methodologies and Uncertainties in the Use of the Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index for the Sentinel-3 Mission

A methodology is described for the validation of Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI) data over heterogeneous land surfaces in an agricultural region in Southern Italy. The approach involves the use inverse canopy reflectance modeling techniques to derive maps of canopy chlorophyll content (CCC) and leaf area index (LAI) at fine spatial resolution....

Geolocation Assessment of 300 M Resolution Meris Globcover Ortho- Rectified Products

The GLOBCOVER project delivers a global land cover map at 300 m spatial resolution using MERIS FRS data acquired during the 19 months period from December 2004 until June 2006. As multiple single orbits has to be combined in one single dataset. Therefore, we need to assess the relative and absolute geolocation of MERIS projected products. We describe hereafter the main steps of the ortho-rectif...

Generation of Gridded Ocean Color Products from Meris: an Efficient Processing Chain

Online services provide several Ocean Color datasets for the exploitation of Remote Sensing (RS) applied to marine and coastal areas. Despite the large number of services and data available, end users often require full resolution gridded products at regional scale. In order to provide a higher resolution datasets better suitable for coastal areas analysis and management, an efficient processin...
